Trezor Reduces Retail Partners to Enhance Security
Trezor is reducing the number of retailers authorized to sell its hardware wallets following a security incident involving rival Ledger. A device sold through Southeast Asian reseller CryptoBilis was found to contain spyware that could capture users' 24-word recovery phrases and transmit them via cellular connection. On-chain researchers estimate losses from this incident to exceed 93000000 dollars. Trezor did not specify Ledger but referenced a supply-chain attack on another hardware wallet brand, asserting that there is no evidence of compromise for Trezor devices. Affected resellers will lose their authorization on January 1, 2027, and Trezor has ceased shipping new stock to them, although they may sell existing inventory through Black Friday and the holidays. The decision on which resellers to drop was based on revenue, distribution, and Trezor's reach in each country. Remaining partners will face stricter legal requirements and closer scrutiny of device sourcing and handling. Ledger has called for unified anti-tamper standards among wallet manufacturers, while Trezor focuses on tightening its own supply chain.
