Arthur Hayes says altcoin profits fund Bitcoin purchases
Arthur Hayes, co-founder of BitMEX, stated that his family office Maelstrom uses profits from trading altcoins like ETH to buy more Bitcoin, with Bitcoin holdings significantly larger than other assets. He noted that returns on scarce-value assets such as Bitcoin depend on entry price, market capitalization, and the risk tolerance for protocols and smart contracts. Hayes mentioned that if AI agent demand leads to a market-value re-rating, tokens with market caps under 1 billion dollars could yield higher returns than Bitcoin. However, he emphasized that Maelstrom's main strategy is to accumulate Bitcoin using profits from other trades. Additionally, crypto outlet Wu Blockchain pointed out that Hayes' past market predictions have had a low success rate and his views change frequently, advising readers to focus on his analytical framework rather than specific price targets or timing.
