Investments in Russia's Fixed Capital Fell by 9.9% in the First Half of 2026
Russian businesses are cutting investments due to a lack of funds, weak demand, and economic uncertainty. In the first half of 2026, investments in fixed capital decreased by 9.9% year-on-year, with a projected decline of 5.4% for the year. A survey by the Central Bank of Russia showed a deterioration in investment sentiment, with the balance of assessments of the current situation turning negative. The main obstacles to investment are a lack of own funds (26.7%), uncertainty (25.8%), and lack of demand (20.8%). In the first seven months of 2026, the profits of Russian companies amounted to 13 trillion rubles, which is 15.7% less than in the same period last year. One in three companies reported losses. Since 2025, the profit tax in Russia has been increased, reducing available funds for development. Unpredictable tax changes, military expenditures, and attacks by Ukrainian drones are also affecting investments. The Ministry of Economic Development of Russia forecasts an increase in investments in 2028, but achieving this will be difficult without additional measures.
