Global Crypto Economy Shrinks 1.6 Percent by June 2026
The global crypto economy shrank by 1.6 percent in the twelve months ending June 2026, while the total value of the crypto market fell by approximately 50 percent. This is evident from research by Chainalysis, which measures economic activity on blockchains. In the Netherlands, there is growing interest in regulated crypto services and digital euro variants. The European crypto regulations, MiCA, impose requirements on stablecoin providers, and the Dutch Central Bank supervises these parties. The market for regulated euro stablecoins grew about ninefold between early 2024 and January 2026, but remains small compared to stablecoins pegged to the US dollar. Qivalis, a collaboration of European banks based in Amsterdam, received a license from DNB on October 13 to issue a stablecoin in euros. Despite the contraction of the global crypto economy, new infrastructures for digital money are emerging in the Netherlands.
