By: github.com|10/22/2026 04:42:05

A core protocol draft named "Decoupled Consensus" has appeared in the Ethereum EIP repository, proposing to separate the beacon chain's head voting from finality proof voting. This aims to enhance fork choice security, shorten finality time, and lay the groundwork for a future transition to post-quantum cryptography (PQ). The proposal is authored by Francesco D'Amato, Roberto Saltini, Yann Vonlanthen, Mikhail Kalinin, and Ben Edgington, among others. It is currently in the early draft stage, with several details yet to be determined. The submitters hope to obtain an EIP number, and the proposal is pending further review and has not yet been merged.
