The World Gold Council and Boston Consulting Group have predicted that the digital gold market will reach between $160 billion and $170 billion by 2031. The current value of this market, which includes tokenized gold and digital products backed by bullion, is estimated to be between $45 billion and $55 billion. These two entities have considered an annual growth rate of about 27% for the base scenario; however, with quicker removal of barriers, the market size could reach $270 billion to $280 billion. Researchers have also estimated a potential demand for digital gold of up to $700 billion, but this figure does not predict the inflow of capital or purchases by 2031. The volume of cash transactions for tokenized gold surpassed $90 billion in the first quarter of 2026. A survey of over 12,000 investors showed that nearly 9 out of 10 would consider digital gold if the right conditions were met. Trust, transparency of physical backing, and clear regulations are among the most significant barriers to the expansion of this market.
