Companies Increase Bitcoin Holdings by 193,000 This Year, Totaling 1.64 Million
Bitcoin financial services platform River has released a report stating that companies are the largest buyers of Bitcoin in 2026, having net added 193,000 Bitcoins this year, bringing their total holdings to 1.64 million, which accounts for approximately 7.8% of the supply. During the same period, the total amount spent by companies was $15.7 billion, a decrease of about two-thirds compared to the same period in 2025. The report noted that Strategy and Strive together increased their holdings by 197,000 Bitcoins, surpassing the total net purchases by companies; as of October, Strategy alone holds 848,000 Bitcoins. Other Bitcoin treasury companies collectively purchased only 8,000 Bitcoins, with the number of related companies decreasing this year after growing sixfold in 2025. Large miners sold 32,800 Bitcoins this year, primarily for building artificial intelligence infrastructure. The number of publicly traded companies holding Bitcoin increased by 10% over the past year, with Robinhood and SpaceX going public in June and disclosing over $1.5 billion in Bitcoin holdings. River stated that its more than 4,000 corporate clients, in a survey conducted in September 2026, indicated that they would allocate an average of 20% of their net profits to purchasing Bitcoin, which constitutes 39% of their treasury holdings. In terms of payments, approximately 1 million businesses in the U.S. accept Bitcoin, with nearly 30,000 having completed payments this year, an increase of 36%.
