Anthropic's Self-Developed Version Control System Scion Replaces Git, Daily Code Merges Exceed 30,000
Anthropic has developed its own version control system, Scion, and has completely migrated its code monorepo out of Git within five months. The daily merged code changes have increased from about 2,500 times in May this year to over 30,000 times in September, with the previously human-designed development infrastructure becoming a bottleneck. Scion was developed by a team of seven, and its infrastructure reduces CPU and memory usage by about 200 times compared to Git mirror solutions, while the time taken for CI and research tasks to pull code has decreased from several minutes to just seconds. Currently, Scion is not a universal replacement for Git, but it shares design insights.
